Vesset Haguf

Question

Hi i was wondering if ווסת דגופה still applies today if let's say a lady has pain in a certain part of her body every month before her period?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

Here are some things to know about the Vesset Haguf:

The vesset haguf are distinct physical symptoms that signal the onset of menstruation, and one needs to consult a Rav to verify if it is indeed considered as veset Haguf.

Some of the more common vesset haguf include:  cramping, sneezing, yawning. The symptoms must be consistent and appear at a fixed time in conjunction with the upcoming period in order to be deemed a vesset haguf.

So, to answer your question if it occurs within (maximum) two days of one's period then it would be considered as Vest Haguf.

However, if the symptoms appear before the period, and also appear at other times, then the symptoms are not deemed a Vesset Haguf, and one doesn't need to do a bedikah, nevertheless one must inspect their clothing to ensure there was no discharge of blood.

A woman needs to be cautious and expect her period when experiencing what appears to be a vesset haguf even if it has not been established as a certain sign that the period is coming and needs to suspect throughout the Ona'ah (night or Day) that the period will start and needs to perform a bedikah at the end of the ona'ah just like like a veset she'einoh ka'vuah.

If the same symptom appears three times in connection with an upcoming period, then it is established and binding. In this case a woman would have to perform two bedikot  like a Veset Kavuah, and all halachot of Veset Kavuah apply.

And in both cases refrain from relation like one does during all the Onat Ha'veset.

So yes, the vesset haguf still applies and taken into considerations even nowadays. Some women experience it and some don’t.
