Surgery to Repair a Niche

Question

Surgery to Repair a Uterine Niche:Shalom, I underwent surgery to repair a niche in the uterus due to medical symptoms (intermenstrual bleeding, pain, or fertility issues). This is a gynecological procedure in which part of the indentation in the cesarean scar is smoothed or removed, sometimes through the vagina and sometimes via laparoscopy. At present, there is some bleeding when wiping, which originates from the incision in the uterus. However, I am taking pills to prevent menstruation.I would like to clarify:Is the bleeding following the surgery considered dam niddah? Is it necessary to wait several days before checking or beginning the count of the seven clean days?

Answer

Shalom uVracha

  1. The blood from the surgery is not dam niddah, but since nowadays we have no way to distinguish between the types of blood that come from the uterus, we must be concerned that any blood may be dam niddah.
  2. As with every count of seven clean days, one must wait five days from the time of the surgery before beginning the seven clean days.
