Kosher Omelet

Question

I’m in a senior citizen facility- kosher They are serving an omelet containing onions tomato peppers smoked salmon a salami and tofu cheese Am I correct that smoked salmon and salami cannot be served together?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for writing.

You are correct. It is forbidden to mix meat and fish.

Although there is no requirement to wait and specific amount of time between eating one and the other (like one must wait after eating meat before drinking milk), one should also do Kinuach Ve'hadacha, meaning one should eat and drink (not water) in between. They definitely may not be eaten together or served on the same plate. Different cutlery should be used from one to the other, as well.

You should definitely bring this up with those in charge of Kosher supervision in your facility. (Since it could very well be that the salami was really tuna slices, which look very similar.)
