Non-Kosher Pills

Question

I see on your website that you permit taking non-kosher pills that are tasteless and swallowed. Why are even the gelatin pills allowed?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

The reason we permit it is, that s ince the gel caps themselves are tasteless, consumed only for medicinal purposes, and not eaten or enjoyed like other food, therefore Le'halcah it is permitted to take them Le'chatchilla, this is true even for minor (i.e., not life-threatening) ailments, and one does not need to find one that is Kosher or to  swallow it wrapping it in a non-food item, such as a tissue. This is the  view of our Rabbi, Rav Amram Fried Shalita, that it is permitted to swallow all tasteless pills as needed.
