Milk fork in a neutral frying pan

Question

I’m on vacation. I only brought a minimal number of utensils with me. I want to prepare a parve (neutral, neither milk nor meat) omelet, in a parve frying pan. But I only have a clean dairy fork to stir it. Am I allowed to do that, and if I am, will that make the omelet and the frying pan dairy?

Answer

Dear …!

Normally, you are not allowed to use a dairy or a meat utensil for a parve dish, even if the non-parve utensil hasn’t been used for more than 24 hours. But if there is no choice, one is allowed to use a utensil that hasn’t been used for at least 24 hours, and the other utensil and the food retain their parve status.
