Question

Is Chivas Regal whisky kosher?And which drinks are approved by our Rav?

 Attached is a list of drinks approved under the guidance of our Rav shlit”a. 

Whiskey

  • Bourbon (straight, not blended) – no added flavors, only pure, made in the USA.
  • Jim Beam – no added flavors, only pure, made in the USA.
  • Woodford Reserve – no added flavors, only pure, made in the USA.
  • Jack Daniel’s – only those made in the USA and without flavors.
  • Crown Royal – permitted except for Cask No. 16. Must be original Canadian production. (Other whiskey produced in Canada has many concerns.)

Vodka

  • Strykover Potato Vodka
  • Strykover Apple Vodka
  • Absolut Vodka
  • Beluga Vodka – approved except for Black Beluga.
  • Grey Goose Vodka – no added flavors, only pure.
  • Nemiroff Vodka – without added flavors, only pure.
  • Stolichnaya Vodka
  • Smirnoff Vodka – only production from the USA, Russia, or Italy.
  • Finlandia Vodka – no added flavors, only pure.
  • Vodka Ruski Standard 

Liqueur, Arak, Tequila, and Slivovitz

  • Benedictine Liqueur – not the one labeled B&B!
  • Heering Cherry Liqueur – with overseas kosher certification.
  • Heering Coffee Liqueur – with overseas kosher certification.
  • Cointreau Liqueur from France.
  • Kirsch Dettling Liqueur.
  • Kirsch Underberg Liqueur.

Tequila:

  • Blanco – all types are permitted.
  • Brown, Cristalino, Joven, Reposado, Añejo, and Extra Añejo – require kosher certification on each bottle.
  • Jelinek Slivovitz
  • Strykover Slivovitz
  • Arak – requires strict kosher certification. However, with Elite Arak one may be lenient and drink it even without strict kosher certification.
