Is ghee dairy or meat?
Question
Since the milk solids are removed from butter when ghee is made does that mean ghee is considered animal fat and not dairy? Is ghee kosher to have with a meat meal since it's lactose free?
Answer
Shalom!
Thank you for your question.
Ghee is considered to be a form of butter from the perspective of Jewish law. It is a dairy product and requires Kosher certification just like all other butter.
