Kosher Hechsher Question

Question

I bought a box of cookies on Whole Foods delivery from Amazon, brand is Maxine’s Heavenly. On Whole Foods online there is a kosher symbol on the packaging clear as day, though, when the product came, there was no kosher symbol. I reached out to the company, asking why this is, and they responded, saying that their product indeed is completely kosher, it was made in a kosher facility, using totally kosher ingredients, and they are just waiting on their rabbi to give them the physical kosher symbol, but it’s totally kosher. Do you think it’s still OK for me to have the product or it’s not OK to have it until there is a kosher symbol on the box? Thank you.

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

The food should not be consumed without a kosher symbol on the package unless you are able to contact the Kosher supervising company directly and they confirm to you that the product may be consumed even though it is lacking a kosher symbol on the package. They need to verify that the product you received is Kosher, for example through the bar code or date of manufacture
