Tevilla: Electronic Utensils

Question

What’s the Rav’s opinion regarding toiveling machines that contain non-removable metal components that come into contact with food that also contain electronic components that will be ruined if toiveled (e.g. ice machines, Ninja Slushi machines, etc. with LED displays and buttons)?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

If a utensil will be ruined by immersing it in water then one can exempt the utensil from Tevila by having an expert Jewish technician disassemble the utensil (rendering it unusable) and then reassembling it anew in a way that only a professional technician would know how fix. This renders the utensil “made by a Jew” and is exempt from Tevilla.
