Immersing a dirty grill grate: What level of cleanliness is required?

Question

I have a grill grate that has been used without immersion. Currently, it is dirty. How much do I need to clean it before immersion? Is it enough to clean it to the level where I would use it again? And what if it is customary to use it as it is? Thank you.

Answer

Shalom and blessings

You need to clean as much as possible.

If a little dirt remains that you are not particular about, it does not constitute a barrier.
