Immersion of Utensils - Device for Slicing Raw Meat

Question

Hi,I purchased a device that slices raw meat and chicken only (not after cooking, and it's also not suitable for cutting other items). I wanted to know—does it require immersion (tevilat keilim)?

Answer

Shalom UvRacha,

According to the Sephardic custom – it does not require immersion.

According to the Ashkenazic custom – it should be immersed, but without a bracha.

In pressing circumstances, even Ashkenazim may use it without immersion.

Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De’ah, Siman 120, se’if 5:

A shechitah knife (or one used for skinning)— (Aruch)—some say it does not require immersion.

Rema: And there are those who disagree (Tashbatz). It is best to immerse it without a blessing.

HaGaon Rav Amrom Fried shlit”a pointed out from the wording of the Rema, that even according to the Rema, one may be lenient, since it is only stated as “best to do.”
