Immersion of a Cotton Candy Machine

Question

I’m interested in buying a home cotton candy machine.I understand that it's forbidden for the machine to come in contact with water — is there any solution regarding tevilah?

Answer

Shalom,

A commercial-grade cotton candy machine poses a challenge when it comes to tevilah.

The reason is that it’s very large, and it’s difficult to find a mikveh suitable for immersing it.

To my knowledge, there isn’t much of an issue with getting the machine wet, as one can simply wait a few days for it to dry completely. Therefore, with a home-use machine, there’s generally no problem.

Additionally, with a home machine, the parts that come into contact with the sugar can usually be detached and immersed separately.

For a machine that cannot be immersed for whatever reason, if it’s possible to disassemble and disable it in a way that renders it non-functional — meaning a significant breakdown that would require a professional to fix — and then to have a Jewish technician reassemble it, that is would be the optimal solution.

And if that is not possible, it would be permitted to sell the machine to a non-Jew and then borrow it back for use.
