Sifted Flour Abroad
Question
Is it permissible to buy flour abroad that is sifted, but not to the level of kosher flour in Israel, its only sifted from dirt?
Answer
Shalom,
Sifting flour is not for the purpose of cleaning it from dirt, but rather to remove insects. In order to remove insects, a fine mesh sifter — known as a 40-mesh — is required.
Other types of sifting do not help for kashrut purposes, only for cleanliness.
