Accidentally Stirred Pareve Onions with a Meaty Spoon
Question
Shalom uVracha,In a pareve frying pan, I fried onions that were cut with a pareve knife, but by mistake, I mixed them with a meaty wooden spoon that had not been used within the last 24 hours. What is the status of the pan? Are the onions considered meaty, and if so, may they be used when cooking fish? If it is permitted to use the onions with fish, should the dish be baked in a pareve or meaty oven?
Answer
Shalom uVracha,
The onions are considered meaty.
It is permitted to use the onions to cook fish. While we avoid eating meat and fish together, we are not concerned about the absorbed taste.
It is also permitted to bake the dish in a meaty oven.
