Bad Thoughts

Question

Are you allowed to think nivul peh?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

I believe you are asking if it is acceptable to have improper sexual thoughts.

One is not to allow one’s mind to have improper thoughts. This is based on the verse in the Torah (Numbers 15:39), “Do not follow your heart and your eyes, after which you are led astray.” The Talmud teaches us that “After your eyes” refers to sinful thoughts. (Berachot 12b). As the Sefer Hachinuch writes (#387) this mitzva applies “at all times and in all places, to both men and women.”
