Re-Connecting with Judaism

Question

Hello. Thank you for being here to answer my question. I am married and live in a rural area in Florida. I am Jewish (mother is Jewish) but I am married to a non-Jew. My mother was not observant. I would like to be an Orthodox Jew but I don’t know if that is possible for me. I don’t live near a synagogue. Am I out of luck?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

It is so nice to see that you have a desire to re-connect with your roots.

Yes, even in your current situation there is much you can do to re-connect with your Judaism and the Jewish community.

Here are some of the things you can do:

1. Go to the Torah websites, such as Aish.com and start learning about Judaism

2. Contact the closest orthodox rabbi to you and tell him you are interested in exploring Judaism

3. Get your self some basic Jewish books, such as a prayerbook (siddur) and other books on Judaism from online stores such as Artscroll.com

And of course, if you have any Halachic questions please feel free to send them to us and we will try our best to help you.

Good luck on your journey!
