Jew-ish?

Question

Hi there. Both my parents are Jewish, but because of religious defiance they decided to not circumcise me. I didn't have a bar mitzah either, even though I wanted to. What do I do? Am I even a Jew? How do I fix this hole in my spirit? I'm more than willing to get circumcised but do I have to go through the process of converting? Help!

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

If your mother is a Jewish, then you are Jewish. Nothing can change that.

Nevertheless, you have a mitzva to have yourself circumcised as soon as possible.

Speak to your local orthodox rabbi for more practical guidance.
