Keeping Shabbat before conversion
Question
I am a (soon) fifteen year old, I am Swedish and wish too convert to judaism. I have started talking too a local rabbi but I wish too replace Christian holidays with the Jewish, Chanukkah, Shabbat etc, is it okay for me too celebrate the holidays of the people I feel connected too before I am fully converted or is that not okay? I wish too be respectful as I am not a Jewish woman yet.
Answer
Thank you for your question.
Of course you can keep the Jewish holidays. However, when it is Shabbos or a Yom Tov, you would have to do one melacha during Shabbos or on each day of Yom Tov.
You can discuss this with your Orthodox Rabbi, who will explain and guide you on how this is done.
Wishing you much success.
