Fast for those who take Viepax

Question

If I take Viepax as a treatment of my panic and depression attacks, and the doctor said that I am not allowed to fast, what should I do?

Answer

Generally speaking, someone who takes this medicine is allowed to fast. And if he starts feeling that he can’t stand the fast any more, he can start eating and drinking “by measures”, that is, by small amounts. The amounts are 30 ml. of food or 40 ml. of liquid every 9 minutes. However, if the doctor clearly said that you should not fast, you are not allowed to fast.

These days our teacher, Rabbi Amram Fried shlit”a holds halachic consulting sessions with a knowledgeable doctor concerning the fast of Yom Kippur. The doctor will answer questions that have to do with the fast. The questions can be sent to this address: 6191265@GMAIL.COM.
