Preparing Food on Tisha B'Av for the 10th of Av
Question
Hi,My wife's friend is making a Bat Mitzvah on the 10th of Av. She wants my wife to help her prepare the food for the event. Is it permissible for my wife to cook on Tisha B'Av (Sunday) for Monday?
Answer
Shalom Uv'Ravracha
Cooking on Tisha B'Av is only permitted for that same day — for someone who is not fasting — or for the evening after the fast.
However, it is forbidden to cook for a different day, as it is considered a form of prohibited labor on Tisha B'Av, this is in order that one should not be distracted from the mourning.
