Fast of Tisha B'Av for a Pregnant Woman

Question

If a woman is in her fourth month of pregnancy, is she required to fast on Tisha B'Av? Also, how is “not feeling well” defined — such that it would allow her to break the fast? And if she does need to drink, is it without limitation, or only water and items that are necessary for her?Thank you very much.

Answer

Shalom UvRacha,

She is required to fast.

If she reaches a state of illness — meaning she becomes bedridden, or her entire body is unwell to the point that she is unable to function — she is exempt from continuing to fast.

Someone who needs to eat or drink on Tisha B'Av may do so without limitation (unlike Yom Kippur, where only the minimum necessary is permitted).
