Invited to a Se'udat Mitzvah During the Nine Days

Question

If someone is invited to a seudat brit or a pidyon haben, may they shower and wear freshly laundered clothing during the Nine Days? Does the halacha change during the week in which Tisha B’Av falls?

Answer

Shalom,

All the invited guests are forbidden to shower or wear freshly laundered clothing, and their participation in the event does not permit them to do so.

However, the ba’alei habris (those directly involved in the bris) and those involved in the pidyon haben are permitted.

At a bris, only the baby’s parents, the sandek, and the mohel are allowed to shower and wear freshly laundered clothing, including Shabbos clothes.

At a pidyon haben, only the baby’s parents and the kohen are permitted to shower and wear freshly laundered clothing, including Shabbos clothes.
