Showering During the Nine Days on Leil Tevilah

Question

It’s my wife’s leil tevilah (night of immersion) during the Nine Days — am I allowed to shower that evening? If so, how?Thank you very much.

Answer

Shalom,

Anything that is necessary for fulfilling the mitzvah is permitted. However, anything that is not necessary is forbidden.

For example, if washing with cold water is sufficient, then it is forbidden to use hot water. Likewise, any part of the washing that is done for pleasure, and not for removing sweat or dirt, is not allowed.
