Missed shophar-blowing in Elul
Question
I missed the blowing of the shophar this morning. Am I obligated to go to a different synagogue to catch a shophar-blowing?
Answer
Blowing the shophar in the month of Elul is not a decree that obligates every individual. Rather, the decree is that there be shophar-blowing at the end of public prayer. Therefore, if you missed the blowing of the shophar in the place where you prayed, there is no commandment to go to a different synagogue to hear it there.
Have a happy and blessed year
