Rosh Hashanah Torah portion
Question
Why is Genesis 22:1-14 always read on Rosh Hashanah?
Answer
Shalom!
Thank you for your question.
The reason the passage of the "Akeida" - the near sacrifice of Iaaac, is read on Rosh Hashana is because it is believed that it actually took place on Rosh Hashana. Indeed, there are many references to Abraham, Isaac, and the Akeida on Rosh Hashana.
It is also believed that recalling the Akeida can serve as a merit for the Jewish people to be inscribed for a good year.
