Blessings Recited on Seeing a Menorah When someone lit on his behalf at Home
Question
My father was not at home at the time of the candle lighting, and he asked me to be his shaliach to be motzi him by lighting at his house. He has now arrived home. May he recite a blessing like the halacha of Birchas HaRo’eh?
Answer
Shalom uVracha,
He does not recite the blessing of Birkat HaRo’eh, since according to the letter of the law he has already fulfilled his obligation through the lighting by the members of his household.
Nevertheless, it is proper (ראוי) that he should try to hear the blessings from someone who will be lighting later, or in the synagogue.
