Number of Techelet Threads in Tzitzit

Question

What is the number of threads of techelet? For someone who follows the custom of adding techelet to their tzitzit, how many threads should be used—according to the Rambam, Raavad, or Tosafot? And is it possible to tie them according to Tosafot conditionally, in order to fulfill all opinions?

Answer

Shalom UvRacha,

According to the opinion of our teacher, the Rav shlit”a, the main halachic ruling is that one should use two threads of techelet and two threads of white, following the view of the overwhelming majority of the Rishonim.

[Meaning: Just as we insert four white threads into each corner (which are then folded to become eight), they would insert two white threads and two tekhelet threads. After inserting them, this results in four white and four tekhelet strands.]
