Reciting Shema Standing and Sitting

Question

If someone is saying the brachos of Krias Shema during Shachris (Yotzer Or):Can he recite the brachos and the Shema while standing? If he began the brachos standing, can he then sit down after the blessing of “Ohev Amo Yisrael” and say the Shema while seated?

Answer

Shalom uVracha

  1. It’s fine to recite them while standing.
  2. During Shachris, you may sit down. But at night (for Maariv), you shouldn’t sit before Shema, since it would look like you’re following the stringency of Beis Shammai instead of Beis Hillel.
