Answering During Pesukei

Question

If I’m in the middle of a sentence, in the middle of Az Yashir, for example, and I hear Kaddish, what can I respond to? Can I interrupt the sentence etc. ?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

One may answer Amen to any blessing, in-between verses.

And even in the middle of a verse, one may answer Amen if it is the end of a topic.

However, one should not respond Baruch Hu u'varuch Shemo during Pesukei DeZimra, since it has no source in the Talmud.

For the same reason, one should also not respond Brich Hu.

If one cannot be at the end of a verse or topic before answering, then he may answer Kaddish and Kedushah in the middle of a verse, in the middle of a topic, and should then return to the beginning of the verse after answering.
