Accidentally Prayed Twice
Question
One day, my friend and I both davened early Mincha. Then (strangely enough), both of us went to our regular Minyan and started Shmona Esre a second time. When I realized I stopped in the middle. When he realized he made his Shmona Esra a Tefillas Nedava. Who acted correctly?
Answer
Shalom!
Thank you for your question.
Your question is directly addressed in the Shulchan Aruch and Mishna Berura 107:3. It says that if one is davening and then one remembers that one already davened that prayer...one must immediately stop. This is because our prayers correspond to the daily sacrifices. Davening twice is like offering two sacrifices which is forbidden.
