Reciting Blessings in the Presence of a Catheter Bag

Question

I'm currently in the hospital and I have a couple of questions. First, if someone is connected to a catheter, is it permitted for them to recite brachot? Second, what about someone who comes to visit them, are they allowed to recite brachot in the room, (since the catheter bag may render the room halachically unclean)?

Answer

Shalom Uvracha,,

It is permitted for you and others to pray and recite brachot.

Since the catheter bag is sealed and there is no odor, it has the same status as 'excrement in a glass container', in which case it is permitted to recite Shema in its presence.
