Drinking Coffee Before Prayer

Question

Shalom,Is it permitted to drink tea or coffee without sugar or milk before Shacharis?

Answer

Shalom uVracha,

Without sugar or milk, it’s certainly permitted.

The Mishnah Berurah also allows it even with sugar.

And nowadays, since people commonly drink coffee with milk as a simple, regular drink, it's not anymore considered a luxury, and therefore it is permitted to drink before Shacharis.

The Mishnah Berurah (Siman 89:22) writes:

You’re allowed to drink tea or coffee before davening so you can focus properly, especially in places where people are used to drinking it and can’t concentrate without it.

That’s as long as it’s without sugar or milk. But the common practice nowadays is to be lenient and drink it even with sugar.
