Birchat HaTorah – One Who Slept a Little at Night

Question

Someone who is tired and goes to sleep at night for about an hour or two (at the beginning of the night or later), and then wakes up, does he need to recite Birchat HaTorah if he wants to learn?

Answer

Shalom uVracha,

One who sleeps a 'proper sleep' (sheinas keva) at night is obligated to recite Birchat HaTorah.

Sheinas keva means going to sleep in a bed like normal.

However, one who sleeps only a little at the beginning of the night and plans to go back to sleep later for a longer, proper sleep does not recite Birchat HaTorah after the first short nap.
