Jewish Music in the Morning

Question

Can I listen to or sing along with music that uses pesukim before I say bircas hatorah

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

As a general rule, one should always recite the Birchos Hatorha before involving oneself in words of Torah in any way.

Although one is allowed to respond to the congregational responses, such as the verses of Kedusha before reciting the Birchos Hatorha if need be. One who wakes up late and worried he will miss the deadline for the recitation of Shema may recite the Shema even before the Birchos Hatorah, if there isn't any time to say it.

Nevertheless, circling back to your question, if one is only listening to songs that include verses of Torah, it is a dispute amongst the Poskim, whether we say the rule of “Shomeiah K’oneh” which means that listening is like speaking, therefore le'chatchilah one should recite Birchos Hatorah before listening to such music

If one is also singing along with the music, then according to all opinions one is obligated to recite Birchos Hatorah beforehand.
