Tachanun in Bedtime Shema

Question

I am Syrian Sephardic, and in קריאת שמע על המטה I say תחנון.
If תחנון was not said during the day, do you also omit תחנון that night?
Or, if Tachanun will not be said the following day, do you omit it at night?
Or does either case cause it to be omitted?

תודה רבה!

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

On a calendar day on which Tachanun is omitted, it is also omitted from the Kriat Shema Al Hamita the night before, since the night has the halacha like the following day.

When going to bed on the night following a day on which Tachanun was not recited: if going to bed before midnight Tachanun is omitted from the Kriat Shema Al Hamita. If after midnight: Tachanun is recited.

Shaarei Teshuva, OC 300:1
