Blessing on the Scent of Eucalyptus Oil
Question
There is a product called “Reichan Eucalyptus,” which is designed to ease breathing. It is made from eucalyptus oil, which is located in the lower part of the device, and in the upper part there is a round sponge that one inhales through the nose. The product is not intended for fragrance purposes—the smell is strong and sharp. I wanted to ask: does one need to recite a blessing over this, and if so, which blessing?
Answer
Shalom,
One does not recite a blessing if it is not a pleasant smell.
Additionally, a blessing is not recited unless it is made for fragrance, and not when it is made for medicinal purposes.
