The Appropriate Bracha for an Egg Served in a Salad

Question

If one is eating a salad that contains a whole hard-boiled egg, should one recite Shehakol on the egg, or is it considered part of the salad and thus included in the Borei Pri Ha’adama bracha? Also, if a piece of egg ends up alone on the spoon, does that require a separate Shehakol bracha, or is it already included in the Borei Pri Ha’adama bracha?

Answer

Shalom

A whole egg is not considered mixed with the salad and is eaten on its own, so one should recite Shehakol before eating it.

If the egg is cut into pieces in such a way that each spoonful is mixed with both salad and egg, then the bracha follows the majority type of food in the salad and exempts the other type of foods.

In a case where the egg is cut up and is also the minority of the salad, then even if it happens that one eats a piece of egg on its own, one does notneed to say Shehakol , since it is exempt with the bracha one recited on the salad.
