Closing a door in an apartment

Question

I bought an apartment from the contractor and it is still in the construction phase. I am planning to move the door in one of the rooms. Is it permitted to close the door that was built in the meantime? Thank you very much.

Answer

Hello and congratulations on buying a new home!

Rabbi Yehuda the Chassid's will commands not to close the door completely, and states that it is dengerous to do so. One should leave at least a small opening. However, this is only for a house that has already been inhabited, and in your case where the apartment is still in the middle of construction, it is permitted to completely close the door.
