Moving a mezuza to a different apartment

Question

Dear Rabbi! I am moving from a rented apartment to an apartment that I bought. When I moved into the rented apartment, I brought my own mezuzos with me. I don’t remember if I stipulated out loud that I’m going to take them with me when I move. However, this is definitely what I had in mind. Is there a problem taking them off now?

Answer

Dear …!

In your case what you could do is to take other mezuzos from an organization that lends mezuzos for temporary use. You could put up those instead of your mezuzos. Then, the tenant who enters the apartment after you leave, will have to put up his own mezuzos (and return the ones you borrowed).
