Pregnancy at early stage

Question

A pregnant woman in early stages of pregnancy feels extreme weakness, nausea and vomiting. Does she have to fast in a regular way on Yom Kippur? If not, what level of weakness does she have to feel in order to be considered a sick person, who says: “I need to eat”? (In which case we let him eat.)

Answer

A woman that vomits more than once on Yom Kippur is in danger of dehydration, and has to drink.

Because fasting makes one feel more nauseous, she should start drinking small amounts (shiurim), because otherwise she’ll probably vomit and won’t be able to fast at all.

On the coming Sunday, the seventh of Tishrei, at 9:30 PM our great teacher, Rabbi Amram Fried will sit down with a professional doctor to discuss questions, connected to the fast of Yom Kippur. You should contact us again then and provide more information about yourself; tell us whether there are any other medical problems, insufficient iron, etc.
