Definitions of “sick” during fast

Question

Good morning! (This refers to the fast of Gedalya, one of the fasts instituted by the prophets.) I woke up this morning feeling weak and with a cold. Do I have to fast?

Answer

Definition of a person who is too sick to fast is someone who has to lie down because he’s too ill to walk around, or someone whose whole body is hurting. But someone who’s experiencing unpleasant sensations in certain parts of his body (like having a cold) has to fast.

Of course, you should try to get rest and don’t exert yourself, so you won’t get really sick.

Be healthy and have a blessed year
