Interrupting prayer to hear the shophar

Question

It happens sometimes that I’m in a big hurry to get to work, so I have to pray in a synagogue alone, without a quorum (minyan). In the month of Elul it happens that as I’m in the middle of saying the shmone-esre, there is shophar blowing in the synagogue. Do I have to interrupt my prayer in order to hear it?

Answer

Since hearing the shophar in the month of Elul is not an individual obligation, rather, it is a custom that congregation blow the shophar after prayer, you should not interrupt your prayer to hear the shophar.

Have a good and blessed year!
