Vacationing in the month of Elul
Question
My wife works in Hitech. Up to now she didn’t have any vacation. Next week she gets a few days off. The question is, can we go out and spend this vacation in a hotel in the month of Elul?
Answer
The days of Elul are not a time of sadness and pain. Those are days of getting closer to the Creator; in those days it is proper to perform more commandments and good deeds. Therefore, if you go to a kosher place and spend your vacation in an appropriate fashion, there is no problem going to a hotel.
