Turning old seforim into artwork?

Question

Good morning! I'm an artist, an oil painter. I inherited some very old seforim (late 1800, early 1900) from my grandfather that are in terrible condition- shredding, moldy. Many went to shaimos, but I kept a few. I would love to incorporate some of these page fragments into paintings. To me, these pages are our living history. They're precious and beautiful. I want to preserve them, give them a new life in paintings that will hopefully be inspiring. Is this allowed?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

It is permitted to incorporate the page fragments into the paintings as long as you do not paint on the actual writing of the pages.
