Was this Mentel Stolen?

Question

A friend recently saw a Torah mentel for sale on eBay. He recognized it as coming from a Sefer Torah that had been stolen from his Shul. He wrote to the seller saying that it is stolen. The seller responded that everything that he has he has honestly. My friend, then said that the seller should present the question to s Rav, which he refused to do. Is there a case here and how should it be approached?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

Our advice to you, at this time, is to take the case to a Beit Din and follow their instructions. They have unique and varied ways to handle such situations.
