Irregular Periods

Question

Hi Rabbi shabbat shalom ... can I ask you a question regarding my period?... my periods are super irregular now... many months I don't even get my period and then all of a sudden I got my period for 2 days and then nothing...do I still wait the 12 days and then go to mikve? ... sometimes I get my period for 1 day also?? So what is the rule for this?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

First of all, be sure to keep a proper tahara calendar so you can at least be aware of when the period is expected and to abstain accordingly.

A period flow of any length requires waiting 5+7 and then mikva.

This is somewhat common in older women approaching menopause. If you are a younger woman this is not too common and a doctor’s visit should be considered.
