Phones on the Second Day of Yom Tov

Question

My cousin (who is becoming more religious) lives abroad. He called me several times today (after the holiday was already over in Israel) (probably he heard about the war and wanted to clarify what happened). Am I allowed to answer him so that he won’t continue calling me, and tell him that I do not speak on Yom Tov? But he might start talking before I hang up!

Answer

Shalom!
For him, there is no additional prohibition once you answer, because the action he is doing is to create a connection between you.
Therefore, it is better to answer the phone and tell him that it is forbidden for him to speak.
