The Appropriate Time for Repentance

Question

What is the appropriate time for repentance – for sins between man and his fellow man and between man and G-d. Before Rosh Hashanah or during the Ten Days of Repentance? Is there a problem with mentioning one’s sins before Rosh Hashanah?

Answer

Dear …!
The days of the month of Elul and the Ten Days of Repentance are the days designated for repentance.
And there is a great virtue in repenting before Rosh Hashanah, as this shows more that the sin bothers him. And this is explained in the parable brought in the Tur.
This is the reason the sages established to say Selichot before Rosh Hashanah.
